SUZANNE PLESHETTE Died Jan. 19 in Los Angeles of respiratory failure, Born 1-31-1937 in New York City, actress and singer (She sang, “The Girls Of San Francisco” and “Happiness”), best known as Emily Hartley on TV’s, The Bob Newhart Show during the early 1970’s.

STEVE DOCHERTY (Stephen Docherty) Died Jan. 1 in a snowmobiling accident, 43, singer, was a member of Power Ten.

BEN MARLIN (aka Benny) Died Jan. 2 of cancer, 31, bassist (Metal), was a member of Strangulation and Disgorge.

O.G. STYLE (Eric Woods, aka Prince Ezzy-E) Died Jan. 3 of a brain hemorrhage (Rap) at 37 years old, worked with K-Rino and Bun B.

STANLEY GAINES SR. Died Jan. 3 of congestive heart failure, 80, guitarist, led Stanley Gaines And The Hurricanes.

DOC SOUL STIRRER (Harry Young, Jr.) Died Jan. 4 in Alabama of a heart attack at 67, blues/soul/gospel singer from East Baltimore’s Douglass/Somerset projects. Doc was a powerful artist in Baltimore’s nightclub scene when Pennsylvania Avenue was a mecca for black entertainment during the ‘60s. Also a columnist for the Birmingham Times.

EARL MAY (Earl Charles Barrington May) - Died Jan. 4 in South Orange, NJ of a heart attack at 80, bassist, led The Earl May Quartet , worked with Cab Calloway, Dizzy Gillespie, Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, Buddy Rich, John Coltrane, Herbie Mann.

TONY BEN (Anthony Joseph Ben) Died Jan. 4, 65 (Jazz - Disco), drummer who worked with The Sylvers, Ronnie Laws And Pressure, and A Taste Of Honey (“Boogie Oogie Oogie”), CCHS Music Hall Of Fame Inductee.

ARCANI CROSSWORDS (Michael Francis) Died Jan. 4 of an accidental, self inflicted gun shot at 32 (Rap), co-owner of Fam Tide Records.

VERNON DERRICK Died Jan. 4 at 74 (Country) played fiddle and mandolin, worked with Hank Williams Jr. among notables.

DREW GLACKIN (Andrew Glackin) Died Jan. 5 of heart damage (Country), born 1963, bassist, was a member of The Silos.

CY LESLIE (Seymour Marvin Leslie) Died Jan. 6 in Roslyn, NY, born 12-16-1922 in Brooklyn, NY, founder of Pickwick Records , was a Vice Chairman of The Songwriters Hall Of Fame.

DAN FALLEY Died Jan. 6 in a car accident at 55, guitarist who worked with The Chevelles and Fyrestorm, was the owner of Dan’s Guitar Shop in Topeka, Kansas.

WALLY WILLETTE (Wallace D. Willette) Died Jan. 6 (Rockabilly) Born 7-2-1929 in Bangor, Maine, he did, “Pink Elephants” and “Eenie Meenie”), Rockabilly Hall Of Fame Inductee.

BILL BELEW Died Jan. 7 in Palm Springs, CA at 77, fashion designer who created jumpsuits for Elvis Presley and costumes for Josephine Baker, Ella Fitzgerald and Gloria Estefan.

VAMPIRA (aka Maila Nurmi) (Born Maila Elizabeth Syrjaniemi) Died Jan. 10, born 12-21-1921 in Petsamo, Finland (now Pechenga, Russia), actress and TV horror host - (She can be heard on Satan’s Cheerleaders’ songs, “I’m Damned” and “Tribute To Elvis”) - Appeared in Ed Wood’s movie “Plan 9 From Outer Space”.

PETE CANDOLI (Walter Joseph Candoli) Died Jan. 11 (Jazz), born 6-28-1923 in Mishawaka, Indiana, trumpeter who worked with Woody Herman, Stan Kenton, Peggy Lee, Henry Mancini, and Frank Sinatra.

JON STOLL Died Jan. 12 of an illness, born 11-6-1953 in Mamaroneck, NY, was president for The National Association Of Concert Promoters, worked with Bruce Springsteen, Sting, Rod Stewart, Elton John and Frank Sinatra.

BRAD RENFRO (Brad Barron Renfro) Died Jan. 15 (Rock), born 7-25-82 in Knoxville, TN, actor and musician, acted in the films The Client and Sleepers, was a member of Frodad.

STEVE GOULD Died Jan. 16 of complications from diabetes at 47 (Jazz),  played saxophone, flute, clarinet and piano, worked with The Instigators, Tito Puente, Tony Bennett, Mel Torme, The Temptations, Liberace and Gregg Allman.

KYLE PARNELL (Kyle D. Parnell) (aka K-Nell) Died Jan. 17 in Joliet, IL, shot in the recording studio, I Eat U Eat Sound Lab (Rap) he was 19 years old, sang and played drums.

JOHN STEWART (John Coburn Stewart) Died Jan. 19 in San Diego, CA (Folk), Born 9-5-1939, played guitar and banjo and was a singer and songwriter, he wrote The Monkees’, “Daydream Believer” and led Johnny Stewart And The Furies, also worked with The Woodsmen, The Cumberland Three and The Kingston Trio, he was married to singer Buffy Ford.

JACK D. JOHNSON Died Jan. 24 in Nashville, TN, of Congestive heart failure at 79, born in Knoxville, TN, managed Charley Pride, Ronnie Milsap and T.G. Sheppard.
