Collective Soul in Studio to Work on New Album

Friday February 20, 2009
Source: Roadrunner Records
Location: New York City

Multi-Platinum rockers Collective Soul, who recently signed a worldwide deal with Loud & Proud Records/Roadrunner Records, have begun work on their 8th studio release, the first release for the label. The band has been hard at work in frontman Ed Roland’s lake house studio for the past few weeks, working on the follow up to 2007’s Afterwords. Renowned for their ability to write supremely crafted smash hits, the band is wasting no time in creating a new batch of tunes fit to replicate all of their past successes.  The band are currently featured on the multi platinum selling soundtrack for Twilight.  ‘Tremble For My Beloved’ from the album Dosage is also featured in the film.

Roland says, “We are only 2 weeks in to the recording of our new album and feel more like a band than ever. It’s reflected in the music, which we all think is our best material to date.”

No strangers to charitable initiatives, Collective Soul is confirmed to headline a special benefit concert for the Save Darfur Coalition, a global organization that represents 130 million people worldwide who have united together to help the victims of Darfur. The concert will take place on Friday, March 27th at the Tabernacle in Atlanta.

In discussing the benefit concert, Roland notes, “As the atrocities continue in Darfur, Collective Soul are honored to lend our voices, along with the youth of Atlanta, to something we feel very strongly about. We continue to educate not only ourselves but the community.”

Globally known for mega-hits such as “Shine,” “December” and “The World I Know,” Collective Soul hails from Atlanta, GA and has produced 7 #1 singles and sold over 10 million records. The band broke into mainstream popularity with their 1993 debut album Hints, Allegations, and Things Left Unsaid. The group’s self-titled second album arrived the following year and logged a 76-week run on the Billboard Top 200. 1999’s critically acclaimed Dosage saw Collective Soul further its run as rock radio superstars. The first single “Heavy” set a new high mark for 15-weeks at #1 on the Mainstream Rock chart.  “Tremble For My Beloved” also appears on the gold-certified soundtrack for the hit film Twilight.

The new album is expected summer 2009.

Sean Costello Fund Benefit - March 1, 2009

BENEFIT CONCERT TO BE HELD IN HONOR OF SEAN COSTELLO

Monday February 16, 2009
Source: Sean Costello Memorial Fund
Location: Atlanta, GA

ATLANTA, GA - The Sean Costello Memorial Fund for Bipolar Research will hold its first benefit concert Sunday, March 1, 2009 at the North Atlanta High Center for the Arts. Sean was a beloved blues musician from Atlanta, who was internationally acclaimed, and in his honor, fellow musicians Lurrie Bell [2008 Living Blues Awards for Blues Artist of the Year and Most Outstanding Guitarist], The Wood Brothers [debut disc named one of National Public Radio’s top ten discoveries of 2006], King Johnson, Felix and the Cats with Jon Liebman and the Soul Shakers will lend their time and talent to this cause. Doors will open at 4p.m. and music begins at 5p.m. Tickets are $30 and will be available online [ http://www.seancostellofund.org ] and at the door. Food and beverages will be available for purchase. Donations are tax deductible.

The original lineup also included Jason Ricci, who will no longer be able to perform due to a conflict in his performance schedule.  Although Ricci will not be part of the lineup, he will be donating the proceeds of his alternate performance to The Sean Costello Memorial Fund for Bipolar Research.  Ricci hopes to lend his time in the second annual benefit concert.

The benefit emerges as the first project of The Sean Costello Memorial Fund for Bipolar Research, an organization founded by his mother, Debbie Costello Smith, upon Sean’s untimely passing.  Sean was acclaimed for his musical prowess at a very early age. He was designated the Beale Street Blues Society Best Performer at age 15; was nominated for a W.C. Handy Award for his album Cuttin’ In in 2000; was voted Best Blues Band in Creative Loafing and Atlanta magazine; was featured on the cover of Blues Revue in February of 2002; and was named the Best New Act by the French Blues Feste in 2003. Most recently, Sean was nominated for two Blues Music Awards: Best Contemporary Blues Album and Best Contemporary Blues Male Artist of 2008.

Sean resided in Atlanta, but was known throughout Europe and the U.S. as a talented, but humble musician who readily shared his talent with young and old. He played with musical greats BB King, Buddy Guy, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Hubert Sumlin, Elvis Costello, Etta James, Pinetop Perkins, Bo Diddley, Little Jimmy King, Nappy Brown, Bob Margolin, and many others. He formed special and lasting relationships with Felix Reyes, Donnie McCormick and Levon Helm. Sean had the honor of playing for James Cotton’s birthday, as he was Mr. Cotton’s favorite band.

Sean passed away suddenly in April last year on the eve of his 29th birthday, after quietly battling depression and anxiety for more than 10 years. It was only a year before his passing that Sean was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder. At the time of his passing, he was in treatment to overcome the debilitating symptoms of this mood disorder and the often associated self-medication.

The Sean Costello Memorial Fund for Bipolar Research is a non-profit organization that has attracted a dedicated Board of Directors and an Advisory Board of renowned clinical researchers as a direct result of Sean’s reputation as an artist, an exceptional person and friend. In creating the fund, the board hopes to increase research for treatment, develop and support education for early diagnosis and intervention, and eventually create a program for musicians and artists seeking holistic support in their effort to lead functional, healthy lives.

U.S. Theatrical Premiere of Landmark CHEAP TRICK Concert Film Takes Place In Multiple Cities on December 4th, 2008 Celebrates Release of BUDOKAN!: 30th ANNIVERSARY EDITION DVD+3CD Box Set on Epic/Legacy

www.CheapTrickLiveAtBudokan.com

New York, NY (November 24, 2008) – On Thursday, December 4th D&E Entertainment will present the U.S.theatrical premiere of a newly-restored concert film from Cheap Trick that previously has only aired once on Japanese television in 1978.  With a running time of just over 60 minutes, Live at Budokan captures the concert that catapulted Cheap Trick to stardom.

D&E will be hosting the premieres in New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia, Seattle, and other markets.  Full list of cities below.

The history of rock and roll is fraught with more than its share of unforeseen circumstances.  But none so unforeseen as those in the life of Cheap Trick – Rick Nielsen (guitar), Robin Zander (vocals and guitar), Bun E. Carlos (drums), and Tom Petersson (bass).  Circa 1978-79, they jumped from being the biggest band ever to emerge from Rockford, Illinois, to becoming platinum-selling headliners on the cover of Rolling Stone.  Chalk it up to Japan, who held Cheap Trick so close to their hearts that the band’s record company there decided to reward the fans with a live concert album, a souvenir of the band’s incredible two-night stand at the country’s most revered sports stadium in 1978.

The album turned into a tsunami whose impact catalyzed America, then engulfed the world – and now is celebrated three decades later with a four-disc (DVD + 3 CD) package, BUDOKAN!: 30th ANNIVERSARY EDITION, that brings the sight and sound together for the first time.  The set arrived at both physical and digital retail outlets on November 11th through Epic/Legacy, a division of SONY MUSIC ENTERTAINMENT.  Separately, on December 9th, a new 12-inch vinyl LP of the Live at Budokan original 10-song album will be issued on 180 gram audiophile pressing.

The deluxe box set is highlighted by the premiere commercial DVD release of a film of the concert, a 15-song, one-hour program shot at the Budokan in 1978.  This film features a new stereo mix and 5.1 Surround Sound by original producer Jack Douglas and engineer Jay Messina.  At last, Cheap Trick fans can actually see and feel the moment come to life when – for the first time in history – lead singer Robin Zander exhorts the Japanese audience, “I Want YOU… to Want…ME!”

Three decades later, LIVE AT BUDOKAN: 30th ANNIVERSARY EDITION proves how immortal some albums can be.  The LP is ranked on Rolling Stone’s list of “500 Greatest Albums Of All Time,” and “Surrender” appears on the magazine’s “500 Greatest Singles Of All Time” list.

“Owning a copy of Cheap Trick At Budokan is a pop culture rite of passage for generations of music fans,” Ken Sharp writes in the package’s essay.  As drummer Bun E. Carlos told him, “Budokan captured everything about Cheap Trick that no studio album could capture.”
