Mark de Clive-Lowe - Church

Sophisticated avant soul jazz-tronica that sizzles with intensity. This New Zealand born musician, DJ and producer (who now resides in LA) started playing piano at age 4 and has continued his musical exploration ever since! Layers of flavors, rhythms and instrumentation are conjured for each composition and flow through several diverse styles as well as musical collaborators.

Anchor Hill - Medicine Grove

Flowing electronica that takes you on adventures through mystic soundscapes and majestic altitudes. While exploring eddies of jazzy sojourns and reflections of forgotten terrain in dreamy forests of glitch-hop, one is allowed take the time to make revelations of discovery and introspection. The dancing rhythms and cozy vibrations access a necessary solitude to find success and inspiration.

Fine Alarm Funk - Abandonearth

Even though the album is themed as, “A DIABOLICAL journey to the center of the Earth and the subsequent DESTRUCTION of the planet!!!” you probably aren’t expecting what this 9 member heavy funk outfit from Vancouver has cooked up for you as they blast through a barrage of breakneck Balkan brass n punk infused musical roller coaster rides while vocally sounding like a gruffer Gogol Bordello. Surprising and refreshing!

Lotus - Gilded Age

Continuing to explore and develop new and old facets of their musical awareness, long time favorites Lotus give us a release focused on the original organic instruments: drum, bass, guitar, piano and percussion. Combined with the fact they recorded it live to analog tape means the sound is very front and center for the listener. Guest vocalist Steve Yutzy-Burkey is featured on this first of three tracks on the album, which also gives the release a fulfillment of another kind. The Gilded Age proves once again that the ethereal ambiance that Lotus is known for will continue unabated.

Zebbler Encanti Experience - Freakquency

A dynamic and very contemporary combination of styles and sounds including but not limited to dubstep, glitch, psytrance, and trap produce what ZEE have dubbed psytrap. While the effervescent melodies and buoyant bass lines will capture your attention, the manic breaks of tension and release will activate all but the completely comatose. I can’t wait to see this combined with their legendary projection light shows!

Dirtwire - Carrier

Creaking and groaning southern folktronica landscapes filled with worldly rhythms and electronic ambiance. This makes total sense since this duo, comprised of multi-instrumentalist David Satori (Beats Antique) and Evan Fraser (Hamsa Lila; Stellamara) met at the California Institute of the Arts while studying World Music Composition. The 7 tracks on this EP are packed with dense earthy tones and flavorful rhythms that twist Americana into something new again.

dr trippy - Invasion by Osmosis

This debut release from Dr Trippy (aka Martin Corbett) maneuvers dub reggae rhythms through a battery of effects and synths while whirling in Indian and Middle Eastern vocal snippets and other ethnic flavors thus creating a quirky yet clever, flowing and highly listenable downtempo electronica which managed to pull me in again and again. Now I understand why it is being promoted as “Punjabi swamp music” and how he got signed to Toby Marks’ (Banco de Gaia) label!

MOA - Uncountably Infinite

Cleverly disguised as a teacher of electronic music production at New York’s Dubspot, Saxophonist Max Wild, under the moniker MOA, really comes alive when he experiments with and exploits the collision of his childhood in Zimbabwe and formal jazz training with the irresistible advances of electronic music at his fingertips. This diverse background gave him ample inlets and ideas for producing and embellishing this genre jumping debut offering of dubstep, dance and electropop melded with urban grooves and African rhythms. 

Kalya Scintilla - Open Ancient Eyes

Memories of futures past are found in the mystical multidimensional soundscapes and tribal journeys generated by Australia’s Kalya Scintilla. An ethnic fusion of electronica and lush healing vibrations give rise to meditative dubstep breakouts, but also chill into meditative paths of ascendant love rhythms, which makes for a well-rounded delightful dose of seductive sonic bliss.

Pigeons Playing Ping Pong - Psychology

The name may be a bit flighty, but this energizing electro jam funk from Baltimore, MD is not for the birds. Amid dance inducing glee from all the psychedelic guitar noodling and heavy driving bass, the highly energized funk quartet delivers solid crowd pleasing anthems as well as jam rock improvisations which in the end will find them perching on your musical mantle for months to come.
