The future never comes. What comes is always here and now. And because of your habit of worrying about the future, you will waste that moment also for worrying. - Pogo
ACID MOTHERS
Monday nights are dicey nights for attendance, but the room was full on 3/29 when the Japanese experimental psychedelic rock troupe Acid Mothers Temple visited the Frequency in Madison, WI. They stormed the stage in a stoner rock fury, but shortly they swerved into psychedelic guitar meanderings and spaced out atmospheres and everything in between, including a theramin to spice things up. Their treatment of Black Sabbath songs explored the extremes of recognition, but certainly excited the audience. What a night! acidmothers.com
STILL GOMERING STRONG
I had been wondering how Madison musical pioneers The Gomers were doing after the passing of their beloved bass player Gordon Ranney. When I had the opportunity to sing at a recent edition of Happyoke I was relieved to see that Biff Blumfumgagnge just moved to bass and the show goes on! Since 2006 Gomeroke (live band Karaoke) has been holding down Tues nights and more recently the 1st and 3rd Friday (Happyoke) at the High Noon Saloon and we couldn’t be happier that they are there. EASY STAR
Reggae superstars Easy Star All Stars have made quite a name for themselves by releasing a string of top selling dubbed out tribute albums. Starting with the highly acclaimed Dub Side of the Moon and continuing with Radiodread, Easy Star’s Lonely Hearts Dub Band, Dubber Side of the Moon and Easy Star’s Thrillah. This group gets the crowd moving with familiar favorites with a great dub twist. On 4/22 you will have a chance to rub their dub at High Noon Saloon in Madison, Wi. Madison’s own reggae superstars Natty Nation get the party started. www.easystar.com
NATURALLY NAHKO
After stops in Australia and Indonesia, musical prophet Nahko Bear and his musical collective Medicine for the People are bringing their Make a Change Tour (and hopefully a few songs from their upcoming release) to the US. The most exciting part is that Madison has been granted 2 nights of Nahko! Known for his vocal style with positive lyrical messages and peaceful warrior perspectives born from an intense and diverse background, Nahko Bear brings an energy of hope and reverence with him wherever he goes. See how on May 3 & 4 at Majestic Theater in Madison, WI with Kim Churchill. nahko.com
