Brew City Sludge - December 2008
by Lane KlozierKlozier here.
Milwaukee’s Brian Emmett aka: DJB has been a staple on Brew City’s rock scene for many years. His work with clubs such as the Rock Shop and Heartbreakers helped to bring many acts to the stage that may have otherwise gone overlooked. As a musician, Emmett has worked with many bands and is currently fronting the hard rock act …13Pills. After the closing of the Rock Shop and the decision to no longer pursue live bands at Heartbreakers, DJB took a slight hiatus from the promoting game. He’s back. Our hero will now be hosting Wicked Wednesdays at Liquor Sweets. The weekly event will be held in the newly remodeled downstairs room (which happens to be a kick ass deal). Look forward to the best in live, original rock acts week after week.
Milwaukee native Billy O Neill brings his Chicago based art rock sensation Oh My God back to Milwaukee Friday, Dec 26 for a tour ending holiday show. The band is back at it after a horrific accident that set them back several months. The boys have mended nicely and have been touring and working on new music. Their latest record Fools Want Noise continues to light up the internet scoring thousands of hits and downloads. If you have never seen Oh My God, do yourself a favor and check out their upcoming Milwaukee appearance with special guests Guido’s RaceCar and the Quon Poppers.
On a sad and personal note: Milwaukee has lost one of its’ best musicians. Drummer Neil Petersen passed unexpectedly due to complications of a pancreatic disorder. Neil’s work included stints with acts such as Thin Man and Chauncey Gardener. Petersen was known for his prowess with quick beats and intricate patterns. He was known even better for his quick wit, affability and kind nature. I had the great privilege of playing with Neil for 7 years in The Buggs where we affectionately referred to him as Gage. He is survived by his loving wife Peggy, many family members and countless friends. Saturday, Dec 13 The Buggs will host a Neil Petersen Memorial Show at Bay View’s Café Lulu. We miss you bud.
That’s all for now my Darlings.
Remember: Christmas is coming…let those parking tickets go and buy me something nice.
