Sun Prairie Blues Fest- 2013
Attention, blues-lovers! It’s time again for the annual Sun Prairie Blues Fest, featuring “10 hours of Blues for 10 bucks”. Fest attendees will enjoy the musical stylings of a unique mix of exceptional performers who have studied at the side of many of the best blues musicians that have ever lived. As a bonus, the fest will also feature performances on a variety of homemade “cigar box” instruments.
On the main stage:
1:10 PM – Kyle Henderson and Blue-Eyed Soul (Madison) – His style is an eclectic mashup of blues, rock and soul. Think the Beatles during the Let It Be period meets Bad Company meets Bobby Blue Bland, and you have an idea of what Kyle Henderson sounds like today.
4 PM – Velveetatones W/ Rev. Raven (Madison) – The Velveetatones are journeymen musicians that are also funny and engaging on stage. Deep blues, humor, and copyright infringement has been the plan from the start. Rev. Raven plays traditional blues, straight up, with a big dose of passion.
6:50 PM – Dave Specter and Sharon Lewis – Dave weaves jazzy precision with smoky, blues-inflected guitar rumblings while Sharon Lewis casts a dynamic and fiery spell with a fresh and contemporary style, building from a solid foundation of standard Delta, Texas and Chicago blues stylings. Her music also incorporates elements of rock, jazz, and gospel.
8:30 PM – Walter “Wolfman” Washington – Walter “Wolfman” Washington has been an icon on the New Orleans music scene for decades. His searing guitar work and soulful vocals have defined the Crescent City’s unique musical hybrid of R&B, funk and the blues since he formed his first band in the 1970s.
On the Cigarbox Stage:
Noon – Aaron Williams and the Hoodoo (Madison) – Jammin’ blues, rockin’ guitar, catchy beats, and sexy, soulful vocals that will get you dancing before you even realize it!
2:50 PM – Paul Filipowicz – Paul Filipowicz is a 40 year blues guitar veteran whose crystal notes pour heart and soul into finger-picked guitar solos that define the genre.
5:40 PM – PurgAtory Hill – is pat mAcdonald and partner melaniejane teaming up to create dark, sexy, hypnotic low-end grooves. The two of them onstage have an arsenal of instruments - pat: guitar, cigarbox slide guitar, stompbox and harmonica; melaniejane: electric cello, keyboard, accordion and variety of hand percussion. These two carry the weight of a full band, one whose sound appeals to music-lovers of all genres yet has a unique stamp unto itself.
