DUNCAN SHEIK
Phantom Moon

Quiet dignified musings mark the third full-length release from singer-songwriter Duncan Sheik.  A graceful extension of folksinger Nick Drake's mellow elegance, Duncan's, "Phantom Moon," gently lifts the listener with minimal backing and unassuming orchestration.  A collaboration with fellow Buddhist, playwright Steven Slater, "Phantom," boasts vivid imagery that glows under the strong, calm baritone of Mr. Sheik.  What might have been a precious and sentimental excursion instead becomes a deep, inspirational work of introspective melancholy.  Tripping softly off the tongue, each track is tranquillity of a deliberate and solemn nature with pastoral allusions of mermaids, hearts and mirrors making for a rather luminous outing.  While Mr. Drake's few discs never made it much past thirty minutes, Duncan's hour-long pilgrimage floats with clear-minded effervescence and solitary confidence. Duncan Sheik appears at The Annex in Madison on April 11th.
